Season of thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is often a day where we gather together with our families, eat a realllllly big meal, and watch some football, but we often get so caught up in stressing over the preparation of this big day, cooking dressing or pies, and cleaning for family to come over, that we easily forget the big picture. Giving thanks.
This Thanksgiving for me looked a little different than the traditional thanksgiving. My family thought it would be fun to go on a cruise this year and I wasn’t going to say no!
As I sat there and looked out into the ocean, I was overwhelmed with thanks. The word “thanksgiving” had been in my head all week, not only because it was thanksgiving week, but because I have SO much to be thankful for. I was on a boat getting the opportunity to visit amazingly beautiful places that God created, living in such comfort. I don’t want to say that to make others feel bad or like they have less than, but I say that because of how important it is to realize all of the things that we do have and to not focus on what we don’t have. To see the glass half full instead of half empty.
Give thanks to God when you don’t have the things you need and rest in knowing that He is enough. I have and I know a lot of other people struggle with giving things completely to God but lately I’ve been trying to focus my thoughts to “He is enough”. True satisfaction will never be found in other men or other women, in drugs, pills, good grades, food, or whatever else that may be placed ahead of the Lord. He is the only one who can and will ever be enough. He knows exactly what we need and when we will need it the most, and He deserves all the glory for that.
This year I’m thankful for the ups and the downs that brought me to where I am. I’m thankful for my sweet family and close friends who push me to do and be my best. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to go to a university like LSU, even on the really rough days. I’m thankful to have an apartment of my own with 3 sweet roommates. I’m thankful that I never have to go a day wondering where my next meal is going to come from. Lastly, I’m thankful for the 24 hour ice cream and coffee on this ship. Hahaha
Happy (super late) Thanksgiving!!
