Promise: something that many people make but few people keep

When you were a kid, did you ever pinky promise someone that you would keep their secret? Or that you would be best friends forever?

Pinky promises were no joke as a kid, and as we get older we tend to see them as a childish thing.

However, although we may not use our pinky's anymore, we still make promises everyday.

We promise our parents we will do our chores. We promise our sweet babies a treat if they do what we ask. We promise ourselves we will do our best at whatever task is at hand. We promise to love someone for the rest of our lives.

From little, everyday promises to huge, significant promises.

We make them all the time, but how often do we really keep them?

How many people have we hurt by not keeping our promises to them?

It leaves people broken. Betrayed. Confused. Hurt.

We are harsh. We are selfish. We are undeserving.

Undeserving of God's promises to us.

Promises that never fail no matter how many times we fail him. Joshua 23:14, "...not one word has failed of all the good things that the LORD your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed."

// God promises us eternal life. 1 John 2:25, "And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life."

God promises forgiveness. John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

God promises to give us new hearts. Ezekiel 36:26, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."

God promises us the fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."

God promises to fulfill our needs. Psalm 84:11, "For Jehovah God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will He withhold from those who walk along his paths."

He promises "strength for the day, comfort for your tears, and a light for the way."

His promises are unending and unfailing. Constant.

How amazing is that?!

As you go through your day, don't forget to thank the Lord for all of his promises to us. Without them, we'd be so broken. So confused. Unsure where to go or what to do.

But know that you can live a life free of fear and pain because of God's promises to us.

// Dear God, I pinky promise to love you forever and never take your promises for granted.
