doubts and fears arise, pressure builds, questions circle, hearts race

some internalize how they feel,

others express their emotions through tears

Did you know that about 40 million adults in the U.S. deal with anxiety?

Anxiety can show itself in many different ways, big or small, making everyday tasks feel impossible, negatively affecting our health. It can leave you feeling drained of all stability as it begins to control your life.

And more often than not, it leaves people feeling ashamed. Ashamed because they know they are fine and life is okay, but they just can't get certain things out of their heads. They want to take back that control over their lives, but it seems near impossible...

When you think about wars in the past, most of them were fights over physical territory. Right now, that is exactly what is happening in the minds of millions. God, the world, the enemy, and so many other things are at battle fighting for a piece of real estate in your mind.

But did you know that God says we should fix our minds on the things above, not the things below, because when the mind is set on earthly things it leads us down a path to destruction.

Romans 12:2 tells us to not be conformed by the things of this world, but instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Constantly scrolling through social media and looking at everyones highlight reel is not going to help you renew your mind. Some of the videos or tv shows you choose to watch are not going to help renew your mind. Certain people you choose to hang out with are not going to help renew your mind.

Those things are only going to drag you deeper and deeper into a place you do not want to go.

So how can we let go of our anxious thoughts?

#1) Begin to take your thoughts captive.

The things that fill your head the most will determine your mood and your actions.

"Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an action and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny"

What fills your head defines the destiny you are running towards, so fill it with God's promises. Fill it with Hope. Fill it with Joy. Fill it only with the things that come from above.

#2) Let it go

Easier said than done, I know, but if God isn't worried, then why should I be? What gives me the right to question the plan God has for my life?

It's so easy give in to the "what ifs" of life. What if I don't get this job? What if I don't marry this man or this women? What if I'm not capable? What if she doesn't like me? What if I fail this test or don't pass this class?

I feel like a lot of stress is caused by a fear that maybe God isn't actually in control, or the fear that He doesn't have our best in mind, but please hear me when I say that He does!!! It may not always make the most sense to us, but trust Him! How do you that? Look at his experiences! Our God spoke the world into existence. He said "let their be light", and there was. He formed you in your mothers womb. He defeated a giant with 5 stones. He preserved life in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He made the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame walk. How amazing is that?! The same God that did all of those things hears your every cry and wants to hold your hand during every battle you face.

We will never have complete control over our lives, no matter how hard we try, so we have the choice of having either no control and God's peace, or no control and worry, stress, anxiety, etc. The choice is up to you....

#3) Prayer, prayer, and more prayer

This is the biggest step that anyone could take towards healing.

Start with prayer, not just a one time thing, but a deep, daily prayer where you are pushing out the worries of the world. When we are able to sit at the feet of Jesus, we are able to focus on the things that matter.

Philippians 4:6-7 tells is to not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

We are also told in Matthew 6:34 to not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will bring its own worries. Give yourself that 24 hour period and don't worry so much about what the future holds. Talk to, spend time in the world, and get the know the One who does hold your future.

Anxiety is real and cannot be fixed by medication alone, prayer alone, or therapy alone, but by a combination of all three. No, I'm not saying you have to be on medication or start going to therapy if you deal with any type of anxiety, but what I am saying is that God wants our bodies whole, our minds whole, and our spirits whole because he loves ALL of us, not just certain parts. Satan would love nothing more than to watch you continue to suffer, but friends, the freedom you can receive in Christ is SO REAL.

Be careful of what you let dwell in your mind, let go of the pain, and pray for that joy to return. I can only imagine the way that God already has planned to transform your life if you only let him take control!

"Cast all your fear upon Him; for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." Colossians 3:2

"You are peace to a restless soul

Peace when my thoughts wage war

Peace to the anxious heart

That's who You are, that's who You are

You are peace when my fear takes hold

Peace when I feel enclosed

Peace when I loose control

That's who You are, that's who You are" - Peace by Hillsong Young and Free
